Eyes On You

This work is about the surveillance that is present with every step we take. Housed in our phones and computers, in our cars and on the streets.
The tableau recalls 18th century Dutch botanical and landscape paintings. Here, I was thinking of the bouquet of flowers as landscape. Vibrant and active, the work distracts from what is hidden.
When making this sculpture I was thinking about the old spy movies where microphones were hidden in flower arrangements, cameras in pens, telephones in shoes and feeling nostalgic for less intrusive times.
